Celebrate Water 2020

Honoring Professor Robert Anderson & Celebrating CELP’s 25th Anniversary

Presenting Sponsor The Tulalip Tribes

Celebrate Water 2020 Virtual Event
Event recorded September 17th, 2020 5:30pm-7:30pm

During Celebrate Water we played a video commemorating our 25th anniversary. We didn’t have time during the event to share all the stories people told so we created an extended version to share afterwards.

CELP’s 25th Anniversary video: Extended Version

Every year we host Celebrate Waters to honor a local water hero, celebrate successes for our waters, and raise funds to continue our important work protecting, preserving, and restoring Washington’s rivers and streams.

CELP became an independent nonprofit in 1995 so this year we celebrate our 25th anniversary. We will gather together virtually at Celebrate Water to reflect on our victories over the last 25 years. We will also present the Ralph W. Johnson Water Hero Award.

In honor of our founder Professor Johnson’s genius and advocacy, CELP has named its award for exemplary service on behalf of Washington’s waters and people in his honor: the Ralph W. Johnson award

This year we present the award to Professor Bob Anderson to honor his career as Director of the Native American Law Center, his work with Tribes throughout Washington and the United States consulting on water and natural resource issues, his dedication as an educator,  and his advocacy for Native American law students.  Bob Anderson’s work embodies the connection between water and Indian Law and the vision of our founder Ralph W. Johnson.

This year, Celebrate Water will also include a guest speaker. We are excited to introduce Dr. Gary Morishima who will discuss the Chehalis River Basin Strategy and its twin goals of reducing damage from flooding and restoring aquatic species

Gary has been the Natural Resources Technical Advisor to the President at Quinault Indian Nation since 1974. He holds a PhD in Quantitative Science and Environmental Management from the University of Washington and is an Affiliate Professor with the University of Washington’s School of the Environment and Forest Sciences. We are thankful for his time to discuss the Chehalis Basin Strategy with us.
